Theron Antonopolis, a strige, feeds on human emotion. In a tranquil suburban neighborhood, his best meals come from a quiet systems administrator who’s become more than a source of nourishment for Theron—Alex Rowler is an obsession. Theron can no longer remain in the shadows. When they meet, any attraction Alex feels toward the sexy monster is overshadowed by his anxiety and distrust of Theron's supernatural powers. But sensing the underlying arousal, Theron begins courting his human.

As months pass, Theron falls deeply in love, and the need to complete the strige bonding ceremony with his human lover becomes overwhelming. But a permanent commitment is too much, too soon for Alex, and he delays the joining, despite Theron's insistence they are running out of time. As an unbonded pair, however, Theron and Alex draw the attention of the Midnight Parliament, and the lovers are brought to trial to determine their fate.

Not my usual cup of tea, that's for certain! However, I read this book in exchange for an honest review, and other than it not exactly fitting my sexual orientation, it wasn't a bad read. The writing was far better than other erotic fiction I have seen from indie authors, and the strige (a kind of vampire creature that feeds off of emotions) added a little extra dimension to the story. It certainly reminded me a little of the Twilight books - with of course the twist in the type of creature, the fact it was about gay lovers, and of course this was definitely not PG rated! I have to admit I had to skip over the more 'intimate' scenes, but from what I glimpsed they seemed pretty entertaining.

My main issue with the novel was probably just that I didn't really buy into Alex slowly falling for the Strige - not after their first encounter and the fact he'd been stalking Alex and David for years. I didn't quite get how his feelings of fear and being threatened by Theron eventually turned to love. Perhaps another power, experienced stalking tactics, or a little Stock Holmes syndrome haha?

I did like the attention to detail in all the descriptions, this was a definite strength.

Night Vision edition by Amelia Bishop Romance eBooks Reviews

I quite enjoyed this light read. There is some very explicit sex scenes, but they weren't gratuitous. The concept of the strige was interesting. Probably my biggest complaint is that the hints of tension early in the book don't really pay off in a big way. This makes it a very light read more about healing and learning to love again rather than the paranormal elements.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book came as a blind date in exchange for an honest review.

What happens when a stige falls in love with the human whose emotions he feeds on?

There seems to be a certain fascination with fated, irrevocable bonds in paranormal romance. Probably because the idea is creepier than the paranormal itself…

Amelia Bishop allows us to look beyond the differences in species and orientation to find universal feelings. This novel is a light, well written love story that doesn’t pretend to be anything else. Something to relax and escape with by the fireside, if not the pool.
Night Vision I read this book in exchange for a frank review. It's a gay-themed vampire novel. The Strige, while not exactly vampires, feed off human emotion. Lust, anger, envy. Be forewarned if you're not into reading about male on male sexual action, you might be surprised and turned off as it's an overriding theme throughout this book. Not that there is anything wrong with that; for gay people. But since it's not my bag...baby, I skipped over the most salacious parts of the narrative. That point aside, the writing is good. I felt like a fly on the wall watching the couple argue. The two men break up and Theron, the Strige moves in on Alex, the younger, more carefree member of the duo. Alex falls under Theron's spell and a vampire like seduction of a mortal starts. The Strige calls Alex his mouse in Polish. Does that foreshadow a dark demise for Alex? Apparently, when a Strige chooses a life partner, there are called Symbolon, and these critters have to choose, rather than forced into this relationship.

There is lots of discussion about home furnishings, male fashion and meals that play to stereotype, but if the stereotype is benign or even useful, is that a bad thing? Upon further reflection, it's sort of like a gay version of Fifty Shades of Gray. But with a supernatural theme. As stated earlier, there is a unyielding, explicit gay sexual theme throughout the narrative, so if you're not into that, you may want to find a more traditional supernatural thriller. But, for those so inclined, have at it.
